Therapy for Children, Adolescents & Teens in Austin
Heather provides therapy for children as young as four through the teen years. I use a child-centered, developmentally informed approach tailored to each client’s unique needs. Through play therapy, sand tray, and talk-based strategies grounded in a cognitive behavioral approach, I help children and teens identify emotions, improve emotional regulation, and learn healthy coping skills. I also support the family system, offering tools and guidance to caregivers invested in their child’s growth. My goal is to create a safe, trusting environment where kids and parents alike feel seen and supported.

Play Is the Language of Children
I provide play therapy for children ages 4 and up through adolescence. I use a child-centered, developmentally informed approach tailored to each client's unique needs. Child centered play therapy is an evidence based approach, meeting children where they are, building a supportive relationship that values their strengths. It is through play that children explore their inner most feelings, process complex emotions, and develop coping skills. Learn more about play therapy here.
Sand Tray Therapy
The sand tray is beneficial in helping clients express themselves in a way that allows a non-verbal communication of their inner world. Through the process of building a world, a client gains insight into their inner thoughts and desires and is able to process trauma without using words. Sand tray therapy can give clients a space to engage in creative problem-solving, exert control, build resilience, and positive self-esteem. Learn about sand tray therapy's effectiveness here.

Adolescent and Teen Therapy
Adolescent and teen therapy sessions are designed to connect with their unique interests, perspectives, and respecting their desire for independence in a safe place. My approach is rooted in a strengths-based and solution focused framework that helps them notice their existing skills to help them reach their goals. Cognitive behavioral techniques are integrated to build awareness of the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. If desired, they are invited to use the sand tray, or another expressive art in the therapy process. Empowering this age group is essential to for their growth, resilience, and future problem solving.
